Darkness pools like squid's ink
drowsiness pulls
shake your head
blink your eyes
slap your hand
pinch your thigh
a losing battle, you stop to rest.
Sounds blend
body relaxes
you slip into a deep sleep.

Not at all anesthetized
your overactive mind
distracts
redirects
makes you feel out of place
in wild dream scenarios
prolonging your stay
enough for your body to heal.

Once awake
sleep drunk
disoriented
something not quite right
where & when are you?
Silent steps
breath...not there
touch just out of reach
taste buds dead
heartbeatless
the shadow & mirror you's - gone
photoframed blank stares, empty smiles.
You don't know where you've been,
what you've done,
nor with whom.
Caught in a selfless void
thoughts whir:
What's going on?
Amnesia?
Hallucination?
Paralysis?
Stroke?
Split personality?
Ghost?
Alien abduction?
Walking coma?

Why do you see
everything
here & there
but not you?

Someone touches you from within.
You are not alone
